Social Media-Free Valentine’s Day

Today was Valentine’s Day. Actually, yesterday was Valentine’s Day. (It’s 1:20AM Thursday morning).

I spent the day determined to avoid social media at all cost (let’s not dwell on the fact that this was because I was avoiding seeing happy posts from a long list of exes who have traded me in for happiness with women who were far better than me at doing whatever it is women more suited for relationships do well). I decided I would do some work on my blog, get some writing done, and tidy my apartment, along with a million and one other tasks that have been on my to-do list since 2017. Now I’m not sure why I thought 24 hours would be enough to take on this mammoth to-do list that has some items I have been hauling around for over a year, but somehow I thought I could.

Anywho, needless to say, most items on the list didn’t get done. But that’s not the point of this post. The point is, having made the decision to avoid social media for the day (and failing only twice – once sometime after 10PM when I just had to post a meme a girlfriend sent me on WhatsApp (see below) and second at 11:30-ish when I accidentally (yes, accidentally. Are you calling me a liar?) hit the Instagram icon button and saw the dreaded post that inspired the decision to stay off in the first place) I got around to:

  • Updating this blog which I have been delaying for over a year
  • Writing most of the copy for my freelance writing website
  • Finally choosing a theme I am comfortable and happy with for said website
  • Working on blog posts for same said website blog

Now I’m no professional WordPress guru or web developer, so believe me when I tell you this was quite the feat. It’s now 1:31AM, and even though I have to haul myself out of bed in a few hours to go to my day job, this feeling of accomplishment is unparalleled. And to think it all happened because I was forced decided with pure determination to avoid any and all social media today.

Imagine what I could conquer if there was Valentine’s Day every week and I was forced to stay off social media… Which has me thinking… maybe I can finally finish writing and editing that poetry chapbook this weekend if I delete all my social media apps!  I’ll keep you posted.
